Addiction Support Groups in Merseyside

Addiction support groups are specifically focused on substance abuse and behavioural addictions, as well on the issues associated with recovery. Some prefer to use the informal environment of a support group meeting to share their addiction-related problems and seek advice. Others, on the other hand, find that exact lack of formal treatment concerning and unsatisfactory for their situation. Whichever one of these you feel, it is still a good idea to check out the support groups in your area and meet like-minded neighbours. Creating a supportive environment during recovery is highly important.

What is NA?
NA (Narcotics Anonymous) is a non-profit fellowship for all people fighting an addiction or dependence on drugs, be it legal or illegal ones. Everyone attending the group meetings is looking to abstain from drug use and find a new way to live by following the programme suggested by the organisers. There are no fees and everyone is welcome. Anonymity is a vital factor of the fellowship to enable everyone to attend without fear of social repercussions.

What is AA?
Like NA, AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) is a non-profit fellowship for all people whose lives have been negatively affected by addiction, but during these meetings, you will meet only people who have suffered from alcoholism, be it directly or indirectly. These events are held throughout the week and can be beneficial for anyone seeking help for themselves or as a loved one of someone trying to get better. Even if you feel like your husband, parent or child’s alcoholism is harming you, you can visit these meetings and seek help.

Travelling to and from Merseyside

Merseyside is a rather small county with a number of important towns within the area. Even though it's much smaller than some surrounding counties (Lancashire, Cheshire, Greater Manchester), there are multiple motorways crossing the region including the M53, the M57, the M58, and the M62. This makes reaching an important industrial and cultural area, such as Liverpool, Bootle, and St Helens, easy and effortless.

Merseyrail (part of Serco-Abellio) is the largest railway service provider in the area. It serves both the Liverpool City Region, as well as Cheshire West and Chester, and West Lancashire. Apart from them, Northern, East Midlands Trains, Virgin Trains, Transpennine Express, and West Midlands Trains all pass through and stop at various stations around the county. If you are arriving from London, for example, you can reach Liverpool via the direct Virgin Trains service from London Euston; it will take just over two hours. From Newcastle, there is also a direct service - the Transpennine Express for Liverpool Lime Street station with the whole trip lasting just under three hours.
