A cocaine addiction is notoriously difficult to overcome due to the fact that cravings for the drug can periodically occur for no apparent reason throughout a person’s life. It is also true that the memories of how devastating the drug is can fade over time, making the individual believe that taking the substance once more may not be such a bad idea.
Actress Danniella Westbrook’s former cocaine addiction has been well reported over the years, with the star famously being pictured without a septum after its collapse due to her drug use. In recent times, it had appeared as though she managed to get her life back on track. However, there have been fresh concerns for Danniella’s wellbeing as she took to Instagram over the weekend to announce that she plans to return to rehab.
While relapse is not inevitable, for many people, it forms a part of the recovery process. Some need to experience a relapse in order for them to fully realise the extent of the damage that their addiction caused. A small relapse is often enough for affected individuals to understand that they actually do want to stay clean; it provides motivation for them to work harder on their sobriety.
For others, however, a relapse can cause a full-blown return to drug use and can destroy their lives in the process. It is important, therefore, to work hard on sobriety to avoid relapse if possible. Nevertheless, this is not always possible, particularly if the individual is trying to overcome a cocaine addiction. The intense cravings that occur during recovery can often lead the individual right back to the drug if he or she does not have sufficient support in place.
In Danniella’s case, she has suffered several relapses over the years and has fought continuously to stay on the right track. Nevertheless, over the weekend, she admitted that her ‘demons’ are making her weak. She said she would be staying at a rehab centre in Spain. She also confirmed that she would appear on the Channel 5 show In Therapy.
Her post read: “So I’m checking into treatment again. The therapy show I did cost me a lot of heartache, painful childhood memories and trauma that the show didn’t fix. Put that with a total lie and sham of a marriage, the illness from botched bodies botching my health, and a break up from the only man I ever loved and losing a baby last year, I think it’s time I did this once and for all for myself my kids and my very small but close circle of friends. Am I scared, yes; but I do want a quality of life I don’t have today and the freedom of a life without demons haunting me and making me weak to my addictions… so in a few weeks’ time I shall be checking into a friend’s treatment centre, and I won’t be leaving until I’m a 100% well in my mind body and love.”
She went on to say, “We all make mistakes, it’s life, but it’s what we choose to do about those mistakes that count xx #BackToSpain #ImAMumEveryday #thewestbrook #treatment #onedayatatime #love yourself #workingonmyself.”
