Everything you need to know for your stay at rehab

This guide is designed to help you prepare for your stay by explaining what to bring, the rules you’ll need to follow, and what daily life at the centre will look like. Our aim is to make your arrival and first days as straightforward as possible, but if you have any other questions don’t hesitate to ask.

 

Preparing for your stay

Entering rehab can feel overwhelming, but a little preparation can make the transition smoother and less stressful.

Arrange transportation
For safety and wellbeing reasons, you must not drive yourself to treatment. We strongly recommend arranging alternative transport, such as:

  • A family member or trusted friend
  • A pre-booked taxi or private transfer
  • Transport arranged with the admissions team, where available

If you are unsure how to get to the centre, contact us in advance and we will help you make suitable arrangements.

Medical preparation
All clients are required to bring any GP or specialist-prescribed medication in its original packaging. Medication must be clearly labelled with your name and supplied in sufficient quantity to last the duration of your stay.

If you take maintenance medication, please ensure this has been taken on the day of admission unless advised otherwise by our team. It is also helpful to bring details of:

  • Current or past medical conditions
  • Any mental health diagnoses
  • Recent treatment or hospital admissions

This information allows our clinical team to support you safely and effectively from day one.

*If applicable, ensure you are on time for medication throughout your stay.

Practical arrangements
Before arriving, we encourage you to:

 

  • Speak with your employer or education provider if you are currently working or studying. Many people take sick leave or authorised time away, our admissions team can provide supporting information if needed.
  • Secure accommodation, pets, or dependants, if applicable. If you have caring responsibilities, try to arrange temporary support in advance.
  • Make basic financial arrangements, such as paying essential bills, arranging benefits or wages, and setting up direct debits so nothing is missed while you’re in treatment.

Preparing for rehab

What happens on arrival

Arriving at rehab can feel daunting, but you will be welcomed by trained staff whose priority is your safety and comfort.

On arrival, you can expect:

  • A warm welcome and check-in with the admissions team
  • An initial health assessment
  • A review of your medication
  • An introduction to the centre and daily routine

*Please note that staff will look through your luggage to ensure no illegal substances or prohibited items are introduced to the centre. 

Mobile phones and personal devices

To help you fully engage with treatment, mobile phones will be handed in on arrival. You will be given access to your phone at set times, after which it must be handed back in. This structure helps reduce outside distractions and allows you to focus on your recovery.

Settling in

You will be shown to your room, given time to unpack, and introduced to staff and other residents where appropriate.

What to bring to rehab

Bringing the right items will help you feel comfortable during your stay. All personal property brought into the centre is at your own risk and please avoid bringing prohibited items, excessive valuables, or anything not aligned with a therapeutic environment.

Rules and expectations 

Our rules are not designed to restrict you, but to protect everyone’s safety and wellbeing throughout their stay with us. A structured and respectful environment allows for recovery to truly be had. 

All clients are expected to:

  • Treat staff and other residents with respect at all times
  • Follow the daily schedule and attend all sessions
  • Maintain cleanliness in personal and shared spaces
  • Respect boundaries, privacy, and personal property

Smoking and Vaping

Smoking and vaping are permitted only in designated areas.

Please note:

  • Bring enough cigarettes or vape supplies for at least the first week
  • Vape liquids must be sealed and commercially packaged; homemade liquids are not permitted
  • Clients under 18 must bring enough supplies for their entire stay, as staff cannot purchase these on their behalf

Failure to follow these guidelines may result in items being removed.

Cash and Valuables

For security reasons:

  • Any cash brought to the facility will be stored in a locked safe
  • Access to funds is managed by staff
  • Bank transfers for client spending may take up to three working days to process

We strongly advise against bringing valuables such as jewellery, expensive electronics, or sentimental items. The centre cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage.

Your Daily life

Structure is truly the cornerstone of any recovery journey. Each day within rehab follows a clear routine designed to support stability, reflection and recovery. 

While schedules vary slightly, a typical day may include:

  • Morning check-ins or group sessions
  • One-to-one therapy
  • Group therapy and workshops
  • Educational sessions about addiction and mental health
  • Time for reflection, journaling, or rest
  • Meals prepared to support physical wellbeing

You will be encouraged to participate fully. Progress comes from showing up, even on difficult days.

Final tips 

Feeling nervous before arriving at rehab is entirely normal. The important thing is showing up prepared and informed. 

  • Ask questions: There are no silly questions. If something is unclear, ask.
  • Take it one day at a time: Recovery is not a race. Focus on each day at a time.
  • Be honest: With yourself and with the team. Honesty accelerates healing.
